In-School Classes
We have two different programs available for schools that are interested in bringing professional theatrical productions or acting classes to their schools.

ACADEMY SRT IN RESIDENCE
This year we are offering two plays as part of our "Academy SRT in Residence" program. for less than the cost of a field trip, we can bring a professional theatrical production to your theatre, gym or large classrooms!


This year's IN RESIDENCE offerings include:

THE VELVETEEN RABBIT | appropriate for grades Pre-K - 4
Story by Margaret Williams
Adapted for stage by Thomas W. Olsen

A boy receives a stuffed rabbit as a Christmas Gift and comes to love him. When the biy becomes sick, the rabbit gives him love and makes the boy well. In return for his good deed, a fairy grants the Velveteen Rabbit life.

LOUISIANA LADIES | appropriate for grades 5 - 12

As Louisiana approaches its 200th anniversary of statehood, LOUISIANA LADIES celebrate the peple who have made our region famous for speaking its mind and making great art. The production features historical monologues and songs by some of the most well known female voices in our city! Characters include Marie Laveau, Mary Bent, Mahalia Jackson, and Baroness de Pontalba. this play offers a beautiful way to bring Louisians history to life!

 

We can also bring drama class to you!
Southern Rep is committed to educating young people about all aspects of theatre: auditions, acting technique, and technical theatre. We can also send one of our teachers TO YOUR SCHOOL to teach an acting class, or a musical theatre workshop!

This year's WORKSHOP offerings include:

WHAT A KNIGHT | appropriate for grades K - 5
When young squire Watt Cobblers is expelled from Knight School, he reluctantly becomes Merlin’s new apprentice. But trouble is never far away, and soon Camelot Castle collapses into chaos. Merlin has lost Excalibur, King Arthur’s daughters have been kidnapped and his brave knights have turned into chickens. Watt and his new found friends Dusty Dragon and wayward Princess Alice set off on the biggest quest of their lives. But can our unlikely heroes rescue the princesses, save Excalibur and defeat the evil Black Knight?

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR. | appropriate for grades 6 - 12
In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
