This spring, Southern Rep launched a new Community Engagement program that requires and involves community in a meaningful way. Community members participation, insight and conversation will accompany every production in the SRT mainstage season.
By increasing the number of “ seats” at our theatre-making table, we start to cultivate and grow the long term community relationships that recognize and embrace distinctions and partnerships in the design and execution of our art form. SRT will not only deepen its relationship with the multiple communities of which we are apart but simultaneously increase our value as a cherished cultural organization in New Orleans.
What is the Community Table?
The community table is the platform on which Southern Rep Theatre serves arts programming to our community. We work to include to a diverse representation of our community in the planning and design of that programming in an effort to provide the most nutritious and enriching offerings possible.
What is being served?
Our Community Table Programming includes:
Lagniappe Stage Performance Series
A free, outdoor performance that spotlights local artists.
Free, Pop- Up events designed to provide a space where community members can create art together. SRT provides the space, material and facilitation necessary to make these moments happen on a regular basis.
A curated series of panel discussions, interviews and audience talk-back sessions that cultivates community dialogue about the work being presented on our mainstage.
A group of community members that work with SRT as community liaisons and planners in creating events that are intentionally inclusive and diverse.

Who ? This seat is for you.
We welcome all from our community to the table. We place equal value on the distinctions that make us each unique as well as the cultural traditions that help create a sense of community. Our programming is evolving and we look to our community members to help us to determine exactly what Southern Rep Theatre programming looks like in the future.
In the past few years, New Orleans has seen tremendous growth and change and while we look forward to remaining flexible to these changes we also look forward to becoming an asset to the rich and diverse performing arts community and that has always and continues to exist in the city. Southern Rep acknowledges that as new voices continue to emerge in the ever evolving conversation centered around art- making in New Orleans, we hope to develop into an organization that places emphasis and value in making theatre in New Orleans in a way that is reflective of the diversity of New Orleans and there is no better time to start that work than now!
