The Breach
by Catherine Filloux, Tarell McCraney & Joe Sutton
Directed by Ryan Rilette
September 5-30, 2007
“How is it that reporters in trucks are slow driving past the crowds and the government isn’t there? The police aren’t there? The National Guard isn’t there? Where IS everyone?”
We were abandoned. As our city flooded in the days after Katrina, those who were left behind were forced to fight for their survival. THE BREACH tells their story. Written collectively by three playwrights, it weaves together two intimate stories of life in the aftermath with that of a reporter who discovers that levee breaches and government negligence are old hat in New Orleans.
“There is no doubting McCraney’s exceptional gifts as a dramatist” – The New Yorker
"Sutton is capable of focusing a viewer's attention in ways news cannot." – Variety
“[Filloux’s writing] is a call to action” – The New York Times
Doubt
by John Patrick Shanley
Co-Produced with ALL KINDS OF THEATER
Directed by Carl Walker
October 17-November 18, 2007
What do you do when you’re not sure? When startling accusations arise about a popular priest in her school, Sister Aloysius’ faith is called into question.
The biggest Broadway hit of 2005 and one of the most acclaimed plays in years, DOUBT won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Drama. We are thrilled to co-produce it with All Kinds of Theatre, who produced last year’s City Series smash hit THE LAST MADAM.
“#1 Show of the Year” – Time Magazine
“A theatrical experience it would be sinful to miss” – New York Magazine
The Clean House
by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Aimée Hayes
February 20-March 16, 2008
Our houses, like our relationships, are never as clean as we want them to be. Sometimes, you need to just embrace the dirt and let a good joke clean your insides out.
Lane just wants her house cleaned, but her Brazilian maid Mathilde would rather write jokes. When Lane’s neatnik sister Virginia starts cleaning the house on the sly all seems resolved. Then Lane’s husband leaves her…for an older woman. Wildly theatrical and intensely poetic, THE CLEAN HOUSE is a magical play about fighting the dirt in your life, finding your true love at any age, and the quest for the perfect joke.
2005 Pulitzer Prize Finalist
“This comedy is romantic, deeply so, but in the more arcane sense of the word: visionary, tinged with fantasy, extravagant in feeling, maybe a little nuts.” – The New York Times
For Better
by Eric Coble
Directed by Gary Rucker
A National New Play Network World Premiere
April 2-27, 2008
A long-distance relationship used to be a deal-breaker in the game of love—until blackberries, web cams, and text messaging changed the rules!
Karen and Max are getting married. At least, if their jobs will ever let them be in the same city at the same time. A romantic comedy for the digital age, FOR BETTER is a hilarious new farce that pokes fun at our overdependence on the gadgets in our lives. Part of the National New Play Network’s Continued Life of New Play Program, we will co-premiere FOR BETTER with Curious Theater in Denver and New Theater in Miami.
"Funnier than anything on Broadway” – The New York Post
"Coble's work is a tour de force with physical and verbal comedy to spare" - The New Yorker
